Improv Weekly Recap: 4/7 – 4/13/2014 – Think Fast Improv
Monday, Art of Improv 4/7
This past Monday was a big moment for Think Fast! as The Art of Improv with Think Fast had their first class of the 8 week program! With 12 students registered, Rory began the program as lead instructor for our first AOI. We are so thankful to Hawaiian Brian’s for providing us their space, The Studio. We are all really excited to see where these students will go in the improv community and beyond. We are already working on scheduling the second Session I, and will announce the new date and location soon!
- Tuesday, Sketch Writing 4/8
Not really improv related, but on Tuesday we decided to take our Regards! Sketch Comedy show towards a different path. It will still be sketch, but more thematic than our last sketch show! We are super excited to put the sketches together for this one!
- Wednesday, Mars Comedy Club 4/9
Wednesday, the Mars Comedy Club invited Think Fast! to headline for their show! We got to see some stellar stand-up comedy by AJ Nieves and Anthony Silano before we hit the stage as the headliners. Chad Wago and James Mane: thank you so much for having us! While the house started small and mighty, by the time we got off stage it was loud and mighty. Think Fast! originally started out performing shows at Hawaiian Brian’s in 2011, so it’s always nice to be back home. Every Wednesday, James and Chad record their podcast, Guys with Issues, before the show right in the Studio. Visit the iTunes store to subscribe to their podcast today!
Thursday, Comedy Brew Ha-Ha 4/11
Friday was a quasi sad and celebratory show for us. It was our last show at the Loading Zone for 47 N. Hotel Street. After more than a year of teaching and performing at that space, The Loading Zone will be moving. We are not too sad though, because our Loading Zone friends will be working together with Ong King to continue classes, producing/showcasing art and producing shows! Including us! Our schedule for the Short Form Improv Program and our shows will slightly change (for the better actually!) so keep your eyeballs peeled for that news when we let it loose here on the website!
For our final show at The Loading Zone, we invited some special guest improvisers to play in our Comedy Brew-Haha show. The guests formed the team A Group of People that Have Never Played Before Together and performed a fun 20 minute set. It was great since most of the players were just as their name suggested. However, it certainly didn’t mean that they were novices in the slightest.
Here are some sweet photos taken by David K. Jones:
We have always had an open door policy to improvisers and teams to come play in our space anytime. We know how it is to be able to find a stage with an improv-ready house. So if you are an improviser, solo or with a team, on island or from outta town, and you’re looking to play: contact us! We’ll work you in and have you rocking one of our shows in no time! You just gotta give David K. Jones some beef jerky, Rory an antenna ball of some sort, and/or give me an Arizona Green Tea. Just joking! Not really. Or am I? Just saying, it would be nice.
Anyway, we have more shows and classes getting lined up on the horizon! Aloha to 47 N. Hotel Street, hello 184 N. King Street!
- Saturday, Sketch Filming 4/12
All day Saturday, we got in my car and drove out to Ala Moana Beach Park to film a sketch for our upcoming Regards! Sketch Comedy show. Special thanks to Diane Kim for being a part of our sketch video! To see some of our past sketch videos, check out our Someplace Classy YouTube channel! We continued filming through Sunday and called it a wrap in evening.
